Interactive Video Environmental Scan
Assignment: view and analyze several examples of interactive video
Time Spent: 2 Hours
Interactive video is a real game changer in terms of training.
I watched the golf video, the yoga Chihuahua, projectile motion, computer parts, and airport security. I noticed each potential solution had different things to offer. It’s important to be aware of what each is capable of as they all help build a more interactive learning experience.

I watched the golf video, the yoga Chihuahua, projectile motion, computer parts, and airport security. I noticed each potential solution had different things to offer. It’s important to be aware of what each is capable of as they all help build a more interactive learning experience.
- The golf video demonstrates the ability for remote coaching based on video provided by the learner. This is particularly labor intensive for the coach and assumes the coach/trainer likely has a reasonable maximum of learners since this level of individualized attention demands a fair amount of attention from the coach. Though it may be less time consuming than I think. In this case we see a more passive learning model. In addition, the objectives vary from learner to learner.
- The projectile motion demonstration gets feedback and checks for understanding, creating a more learner centered experience. This model can be used with many more users, is not individualized, and allows for focus on a few specific learning objectives.
- The video with the Yoga dog was lots of fun. The main point with this was simple quizzing of information. While this has some utility, it is somewhat limited as it only checks for understanding without necessarily creating the kind of interaction shown in the projectile piece.
- The examples created by Adobe Captivate and by Articulate Storyline appear to offer tremendous capability for both checks for understanding and user interaction in the video, creating a video simulation. I think this allows for a tremendous change in the impact on the learner.
